Why is my Lucky Bamboo plant sprouting crazy amounts of leaves?

i have a lucky bamboo and its shooting out leaves in overdrive. i keep watering it - it keeps drinking all the water - and it doesn't grow any higher just more and more leaves shoot out of the two "branches". like its real short and has over 12 leaves - some are pretty big too. whats going on? and they are starting to turn yellow at the tips...why?
