Can women's menstrual cycles match up if they don't live in the same town?

I know they can match up if women spend a lot of time together, but what if you talk every day, 4 or 5 times a day, but don't actually physically see each other? Can the cycles begin to mirror each other then? Just wondering...it seems like this is happening to me and my best friend. She lives in Reno and I live in Vegas.
