Why doesnt my volume properties display microphone???

I just bought a condenser microphone and a USB mixer...when i plug the mixer and the microphone in it works find BUT when I go to volume properties and click 'recording' there int anything there...no wav, no line. no microphone. no nothing...Is there a way to add things to your volume properties?
